7 Cameroonian dishes to try in Yaoundé

Ndolé, eru, koki, poulet DG… and where to taste them near the hotel.

Cameroonian cuisine is one of the most varied in Africa: every region brings its own sauces, leaves and spices. Here are seven dishes not to miss during your stay in Yaoundé.

1. Ndolé

The national dish: bitter leaves simmered with groundnuts, served with shrimp, fish or meat. It comes with ripe plantain, miondo or cassava sticks.

2. Poulet DG

“Director General’s chicken”: sautéed chicken with fried ripe plantains, carrots, green beans and peppers. Generous and festive, it is one of our restaurant’s best-sellers.

3. Eru and water fufu

A South-West speciality: finely shredded eru leaves cooked with palm oil, smoked fish and cow skin, served with a cassava paste.

4. Koki

A cake of mashed beans seasoned with palm oil and steamed in banana leaves. It is often eaten with plantain or cassava.

5. Mbongo tchobi

A very fragrant black sauce made with roasted spices, served with fish. A unique taste you have to try.

6. Achu

An iconic North-West dish: pounded taro served with a “yellow soup” made with palm oil and spices.

7. Grilled fish

Sea bass or mackerel grilled over a wood fire, spiced and served with cassava sticks, plantain or fries. Perfect in the evening.

Where to taste them

Our restaurant serves several of these dishes every day, in the dining room, at the bar or in your room. For the others, the front desk will share its favourite places in the neighbourhood.
